Breaking down the Titans’ 53-man roster by position

By John Glennon

An untested quarterback, a large collection of offensive linemen and a slimmer-than-usual group of outside linebackers highlight the Titans' initial 53-man roster announced Saturday.

The roster may well change before the team's Monday Night Football opener in Denver on Sept. 14, but there are already some intriguing situations.

One development that Titans fans should be pleased about is that outside linebacker Vic Beasley – who reported 10 days late and missed all of training camp – was transferred off the non-football injury list and onto the team's 53-man roster. Had he started the season on NFI, Beasley would have had to miss at least the first six games.

At quarterback, the Titans gave the back-up nod to Logan Woodside, who has never taken a snap in an NFL game. But he has seen preseason work, and the Titans valued the parts of two seasons he's spent with the organization's practice squad.

The Titans kept just four outside linebackers, cutting D'Andre Walker, a fifth-round pick from 2019 who was injured all of last year. Keep in mind that this year, NFL teams can bolster their game-day roster by two players, a new rule which could impact this position for the Titans.

On the other hand, the Titans kept 10 offensive linemen, at least one more than the team normally does.
