Breaking: Gary Smith to miss Nashville’s playoff match with LA Galaxy

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC will be without their head coach for their Round One MLS Cup Playoff match against LA Galaxy.

First reported by TUDN‘s Michele Giannone, Gary Smith did not travel with the team, and will remain home with illness, although he’s not in the league’s Covid health & safety protocols.

With Smith out, assistant coach Steve Guppy will coach the team in his absence. Guppy has served as Nashville’s primary assistant since they started in MLS. He has coached one game, when Smith missed a match in 2020 due to Covid. The result was a 1-0 win against FC Dallas, Nashville’s first win in MLS.

Nashville kick off against LA Galaxy at 2 pm CT.
