Huntsville City FC sign Kenyan youth international Faiz Opande

Huntsville City FC announced the signing of midfielder Faiz Opande on Thursday morning.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder spent the last season with Elite Falcons FC in the United Arab Emirates’ FKF Division Two, where he played seven matches en route to promotion. He has spent time on trial with English Premier League side Crystal Palace and Dumferline Athletic of the Scottish second tier, and was previously linked with a move to DC United. He’s represented Kenya at the U17 levels, and is currently a member of their U20 side.

“We are excited to have Faiz join our group,” said Matt Cairns, Huntsville City FC Director of Soccer Operations, in the club’s press release. “His versatility in midfield and defense will be a great asset for the season ahead. Our fans will enjoy his energy, tenacity, and ability to pick a pass in the midfield.”

Huntsville City are currently 14th in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference, with three points and no wins from their first five games. 31.5% of their available minutes so far have been played by Nashville SC youth academy products.
