Huntsville City transfer Alexis Cerritos to Lexington United

On Friday, Huntsville City FC announced that forward Alexis Cerritos has been transferred to Lexington United SC in USL League One. Terms of the transfer were not disclosed.

Cerritos was signed ahead of the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season after two seasons with Central Valley Fuego FC, as well as one cap with the El Salvador national team. One of the more proven attackers on the roster, Cerritos was expected to contribute significantly to a team that has consistently struggled to finish chances.

However, Cerritos made just four appearances in Huntsville’s first six matches, playing just 96 minutes and failing to earn a single start. With academy players like Adem Sipić, Dominic Wilson and Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez preferred in Cerritos’s favored positions, as well as Maximus Ekk emerging as a top option up top, it seemed evident that Cerritos hadn’t been able to stake a claim higher up the depth chart.

Huntsville are currently in 14th place in MLS NEXT Pro’s Eastern Conference. They have yet to win a match, and have scored just eight goals in 2024.
