Increasing returns on Titans’ strong 2019 draft class help make up for 2020 group’s troubling start

The most notable thing about the Titans' 2020 draft class so far has been its absence from the football field.

That's less than ideal. But there's really no other way to put it.

Maybe we should have sensed bad things were ahead way back in August, when the Titans cut one of their seventh-round picks, quarterback Cole McDonald, two days after the team's first padded practice.

Some other rookie lowlights in the three-and-a-half months since:

  • The Titans' first-round pick, tackle Isaiah Wilson, was charged with DUI last September. He watched his teammates play the first 10 games of the season, finally making his debut last Sunday with three offensive snaps at the end of the contest.
  • The team's second- and third-round picks, cornerback Kristian Fulton and running back Darrynton Evans, have played in just five and two games, respectfully, this season because of injuries and COVID-19. Both players are currently on the team's designated to return from injured reserve list, hoping to make contributions before the end of the season. The Titans' other seventh-round pick, cornerback Chris Jackson, is on the COVID-19 reserve list.
  • The Titans' six-player draft class – five, if you no longer count McDonald – has produced just 24 man-games to date, the fewest of any team in the league . . .
