Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar named MLS player of the week

Nashville SC midfielder Hany Mukhtar has been named MLS player of the week. The German-born attacker scored three goals in six minutes in a 5-1 win over Chicago, completing his hat trick within the first 16 minutes of the match, and MLS record.

Mukhtar’s third goal, a free kick from 20 yards out that kissed the crossbar on its way to goal, is nominated for the league’s goal of the week honor.

The win over Chicago puts Nashville level on points for third place in the Eastern conference ahead of a midweek trip to Columbus Crew SC.

Mukhtar was also named to the MLS Team of the Week, along with Dan Lovitz, who made the bench after assisting Mukhtar’s second goal.

This is Mukhtar’s third selection of the 2021 season, a club high. Lovtiz and Mukhtar’s selection make 13 times a Nashville SC player has been named to the team of the week this season.
