2023 is almost in the rear view mirror. We’re looking back at Nashville SC’s best goals of the 2023 season as the year draws to a close.
Hany Mukhtar vs CF Monterrey (Leagues Cup)
Hany Mukhtar had Nashville SC’s best goal of the year in their Leagues Cup semifinal against Liga MX powerhouse CF Monterrey, combining with Teal Bunbury before curling a vicious effort into the top corner.
The goal was inexplicably ruled out for offside, with Alex Muyl adjudged to have impacted goalkeeper Esteban Andrada’s dive. It was a universally panned decision, robbing Mukhtar and Nashville of one of the best goals in their history. It didn’t ultimately matter, though, with Nashville going on to win 2-0.
Alex Muyl vs Sporting Kansas City (MLS)
Ever seen a dude score a goal with his armpit? Neither had we, until Alex Muyl pulled off this beautiful and completely intentional finish.
Randall Leal vs D.C. United (MLS)
A gorgeous pass over the top from Hany Mukhtar put Randall Leal in all kinds of space, but his little dink around the ‘keeper to set up an open-goal finish made the goal a special one.
Sam Surridge vs New England Revolution (MLS)
Nashville’s DP no. 9 isn’t a stranger to a silky first-time finish, and his October goal against New England put that on full display. The run and pass from Mukhtar was special, and Surridge matched it with a curled finish off the far post and in.
11. Taylor Washington vs CF Montréal (MLS)
Taylor Washington’s first MLS goal was a memorable one, hitting a flying volley late in the match to cap off a 2-0 win over CF Montréal at home.
In the rain, in Nashville’s new “Man In Black” kits, in front of Nashville’s supporters’ section… what a memorable goal it was.
10. Fafà Picault vs Orlando City (MLS)
Some quick thinking from Hany Mukhtar and a perfect chip from Fafà Picault saw the winger get his first goal for Nashville SC, giving the Coyotes a solid 2-0 win on the road.
9. Fafà Picault vs Inter Miami (MLS)
The finish from Picault was nice, but the ball from Aníbal Godoy was superb, and the turn from Mukhtar made the goal, leaving Christopher McVey completely frozen.
8. Hany Mukhtar vs FC Dallas (MLS)
The ball from Dan Lovitz to pick out Mukhtar was a good one, but the reigning MVP took over once he received the ball, bringing the pass down and nutmegging José Martínez to set up an easy finish.
7. Sam Surridge vs CF Monterrey (Leagues Cup)
All three of Nashville SC’s Designated Players combined for arguably the most important goal of the season for the Boys In Gold; Walker Zimmerman won the ball from a goal kick and found Hany Mukhtar in stride, who drew the defenders to himself before laying it off to Sam Surridge for an inch-perfect first time finish.
After Mukhtar’s prior disallowed goal, Nashville took a deserved lead and a place in the final against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
6. Fafà Picault vs FC Dallas (U.S. Open Cup)
Arguably the best solo goal of Nashville’s season, Picault picked up the ball just inside his own half, skipping past three defenders before a decisive finish to the far post.
5. Jacob Shaffelburg vs CF Montréal (MLS)
Jacob Shaffelburg was Nashville’s most in-form player to start the season, and his goal against CF Montréal was evidence of that.
Linking up with Mukhtar, the Canadian international hit an absolute rocket off the bar and in to put Nashville ahead. The celebration was… something.
4. Hany Mukhtar vs Minnesota United (Leagues Cup)
A training ground corner kick routine led to one of Nashville’s best team goals of the year, with Dan Lovitz and Brian Anunga combining before a slick heel flick from Dax McCarty set Hany Mukhtar up for a trademark near post finish, capping off a 5-0 domination.
3. Hany Mukhtar vs St. Louis CITY (MLS)
No, it’s not déjà vu. Mukhtar and McCarty combined for another goal, with an even better heel-flick assist from the captain to set up Mukhtar for a lethal finish, capping off a hat trick against the expansion side.
2. Dax McCarty vs New England Revolution (MLS)
A banger from the captain, hitting a rocket off the crossbar and in. It was one of just eight goals the Coyotes scored in 11 matches after Leagues Cup, and it proved to be McCarty’s final goal in a Nashville SC shirt.
1. Sam Surridge vs Club América (Leagues Cup)
Was there ever going to be another no. 1? Surridge’s first goal in gold came in the 99th minute, the latest goal in Nashville SC history, and arguably the most memorable.
