Nashville SC loan Handwalla Bwana to Memphis 901 FC

Nashville SC announced Friday the loan of winger Handwalla Bwana to Memphis 901 FC of the USL Championship for the rest of the 2022 season. Nashville can recall Bwana at any point in the season.

Bwana, 23, was acquired from the Seattle Sounders in 2020 for $225,000 in General Allocation Money plus Jimmy Medranda. Since joining Nashville, Bwana has made just nine league appearances and was an unused substitute in 12 other matches , struggling with injuries throughout his time in Music City. He played in two of Nashville’s 2022 US Open Cup matches as well, notching the game-winning assist to Hany Mukhtar against Louisville City.

For Bwana, heading to Memphis gives him much needed playing time, and just three hours away, it would be easy for Nashville to recall him. But from a Nashville perspective, it’s another talented young attacker who’s been unable to break into the squad. Bwana is a completely unique attacking player in Nashville’s roster. The club will hope that a few months of regular minutes will allow him to take a step forward.
