Nashville SC select defender Eric Miller in first stage of Re-Entry Draft

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC continue to to build their Major League Soccer roster, selecting defender Eric Miller in Stage One of the 2019 Re-Entry Draft.

After passing on the waiver draft on Monday, Nashville jumped ahead in the draft order, trading the 25th spot plus a second round pick in the 2022 SuperDraft to Vancouver in exchange for the second overall pick in the Re-Entry Draft.

“Eric is a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back line, and who we have watched play at the youth, college, international and professional levels. He strengthens an already experienced group at the back,” said Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs.

With that second overall pick, Nashville filled a major hole in their roster. Primarily a right back, Miller joined New York City FC in the 2019 summer transfer window, where he played 328 minutes in five appearances for the second best defense in the league. Miller joined NYCFC after playing a more prominent role for Minnesota, playing 1,580 minutes in one and a half seasons. Miller has also spent time with Montreal and Colorado after entering the league in 2014.

By picking him in the first stage of the re-entry draft, Nashville have to offer him a contract at least equivalent to the $108,550 he made in 2019. He’ll should be a cap-friendly option at right back, with a floor as a versatile depth piece.

Miller is the 20th player added to Nashville’s roster before their debut campaign in Major League Soccer. Nashville will have the option to add more players in Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft on Monday, December 3.
