Nashville SC select Irakoze Donasiyano in the SuperDraft first round

Nashville SC bolstered their attack with their first round selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, taking Irakoze Donasiyano with the 20th overall pick.

Donasiyano is a versatile midfielder/forward out of Virginia. Primarily an attacking midfielder, he can drop back to play as a no. 8 or play as a forward or winger.

Dangerous in front of goal, Donasiyano is a pacey player who looks to combine with quick passes in the final third. For a Nashville side that values versatility, his ability to play multiple roles is intriguing.

Donasiyano was a Third Team All-ACC selection in 2019, starting all 24 of the Cavaliers matches. In his three seasons at Virginia, he scored five goals and assisted eight in 58 matches. The 5-9 midfielder acquired his US citizenship in January 2020, originally from Tanzania. He won’t take up an international spot for Nashville.

Nashville will have another chance to add a player with the 9th pick of the second round (36th overall). We’ll have the latest on their draft selections, as well as thoughts from General Manager Mike Jacobs after the draft, right here at BroadwaySportsMedia.com.
