NASHVILLE TN – Nashville SC announced the signing of free agent goalkeeper Bryan Meredith on Wednesday morning. Meredith, 31, is a 10 year MLS veteran, who has played with the Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes, before spending the 2020 season with Vancouver Whitecaps.
“Bryan has been an outstanding teammate wherever he’s been, and we know that he’ll add to the depth of our goalkeeping corps here, said Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs in a club statement. “His size and athleticism make him someone who immediately adds competition and improves our goalkeeper pool.”

Meredith has been largely a backup throughout his MLS career, but made three appearances for Vancouver last season, in which he conceded 10 goals. Vancouver struggled mightily in 2020, allowing 41 goals in 23 matches, the fourth-worst tally in MLS. In total, he’s notched 16 MLS appearances across his career.
In his 389 MLS minutes American Soccer Analysis has on record, Meredith has made 23 saves on 33 shots faced for a 69.9% save percentage. With a goals-minus-expected-goals number of 0.75, his overall numbers are solid, if not spectacular.
Meredith joins a goalkeeper corps that features Joe Willis coming off a career year, with 2020 SuperDraft pick Elliot Panicco featuring as the number two, with potential to develop into a larger role down the road.
Nashville lost Brady Scott in the 2020 Expansion Draft. It seems likely that Meredith has been brought in to fill the third ‘keeper role, with CJ Cochran’s short-term loan up at the end of the 2020 season. Nashville also drafted Tor Saunders in the 2021 SuperDraft, but he’ll spend the spring season with Costal Carolina before joining Nashville in the summer.
Bryan Meredith will wear the number 35 shirt for Nashville SC.
