Nashville SC to announce new homegrown signing

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC are set to announce their second-ever homegrown signing on Wednesday, February 7. Ahead of their preseason friendly against Birmingham Legion, the club will hold a special press conference to announce the new academy player signed to a first team contract.

Last season, Adem Sipić became the first homegrown signing in club history. The 18-year-old striker spent all of last season with Huntsville City FC in MLS NEXT Pro, but is eligible to play for Nashville in 2024.

Nashville’s academy has seen a slower roll out than many recent MLS expansion clubs, and they’re yet to have a homegrown player see the field in a competitive match. However, five academy players saw the field for Huntsville City FC, with three others involved in match-day squads.

Midfielder Isaiah Jones is a highly-rated academy prospect. A Nashville native and product of Nashville United Soccer Academy, Jones made five appearances for Huntsville last season, starting four of their last eight matches as they pushed for a playoff spot. He has been a regular in first-team training with Nashville over the last 18 months, and is currently in preseason camp.

Goalkeeper Jake Grekowicz is another intriguing prospect. Another regular at the Vanderbilt Health and Training Center, the 17-year-old Michigan native was Huntsville’s backup ‘keeper in six matches last season and is highly regarded around the club, but has verbally committed to Michigan State University.

Nashville will officially unveil the new signing at 12:30 pm CT on Wednesday.
