Nashville SC’s Brady Scott selected by Austin in the MLS Expansion Draft

With the third pick of the 2020 MLS Expansion Draft, Austin FC selected goalkeeper Brady Scott from Nashville SC. Scott, 21, was signed from FC Köln II in Germany in August, before immediately joining Sacramento Republic in USL Championship.

With Joe Willis playing every minute of the 2020 season before signing a long-term extension, as well as the development of Elliot Panicco, Scott’s prospects of seeing action in the near future were slim. However, as a youth international with European experience, Scott has plenty of potential to develop into a first-choice MLS ‘keeper, a fact both Nashville and Austin are aware of.

From a Nashville perspective, losing Scott isn’t ideal, but it’s a crowded position with a locked-in starter and a high-potential young ‘keeper ahead of him.

From a business side, flipping a player who had been signed on a free transfer and hadn’t played a minute for $50,000 in GAM and protection from next year’s draft isn’t a bad deal, either.
