Nashville SC’s Joe Willis named to MLS Team of the Week for performance in New England

Nashville SC’s Joe Willis was named to the MLS Team of the Week on Monday following his five save performance in Nashville’s scoreless draw in New England. The goalkeeper’s heroics were vital to securing a point on the road.

Willis faced total shots and held New England scoreless, despite their 1.91 expected goals.

Willis has played every minute of the season so far, conceding 14 total goals from 64 total shots. He’s conceded 2.11 goals less than his opponents’ expected goals total, the fourth-best record in the league.

Only five teams have conceded less than Nashville SC, in large part to Willis’s contributions.

The Team of the Week nod for Willis is Nashville’s second of the season. Dax McCarty made the cut in Week 11, following his goal and three assists against Atlanta United. Midfielder Aníbal Godoy and forward Daniel Ríos have both been named to the bench this season, and Gary Smith was also named manager of the week after Nashville’s 4-2 win over Atlanta.

Nashville SC take on Minnesota United at Nissan Stadium tomorrow night. Fans will be in attendance for the first time since February.
