Nashville’s Walker Zimmerman called up to USMNT

Nashville SC’s Walker Zimmerman has been called up to the US Men’s National Team ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Costa Rica. The defender will replace Matt Miazga on Gregg Berhalter’s roster.

Zimmerman, 28, has earned 13 international caps since his debut in 2017. Although the center-back pool is deep, the U.S. display in the Nations League showed that there are potentially spots available at the position in Berhalter’s first-choice roster. Already confirmed to be on the roster for the Concacaf Gold Cup in July, Zimmerman will get a chance to play with the first-choice group tomorrow.

He’ll likely face off against a teammate in Randall Leal, who started both of Costa Rica’s matches in the Nations League finals. The match kicks off at 6:00 PM central at Real Salt Lake’s Rio Tinto Stadium, and will air on ESPN2 and TUDN.
