Playing Will Levis vs. Texans is right decision for Titans

All signs point to Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis starting Sunday's divisional rematch versus the Houston Texans. Levis was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday after missing last weekend's defeat to the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury. Mike Vrabel is making the right decision by reinserting Levis into the starting lineup.

The Titans have already been eliminated from postseason contention. They're simply playing for draft positioning at this point, and will enter Sunday with the No. 7 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, and with an opportunity to potentially improve that standing with another defeat to the Texans. Despite that, Mike Vrabel shouldn't second-guess the decision to play Levis.

Sure, Levis could get reinjure his ankle behind one of the worst pass-protection offensive lines in the league. It's worth acknowledging Levis originally suffered the injury against a Texans defense that sacked him on seven occasions two weeks ago. That same defensive line that has since added former Titans defensive linemen Teair Tart, who is undoubtedly looking forward to a revenge game opportunity.

But predicting injuries is a fools errand, even if Levis is playing behind a below-average offensive line. Managing injuries and playing through pain is a key skill that franchise quarterbacks must master. Levis is tough as nails, and after consecutive full practice logs, it's clear that Tennessee's medical team has cleared him to return. Keeping . . .
