On Today’s Show (Sponsored by Jasper’s)

In a new episode, sponsored by Jasper’s, Zach and Mike talk about the domination of the Houston Texans by the Tennessee Titans. Which leads to the overall discussion of what are the Titans, and why it should be okay with everyone how they operate. Where do the rank in the AFC? In the NFL? Is Mike slowly buying back in? SPONSOR: Jasper’s is the next evolution of the Sports Bar. One of my personal favorite places to go, they’re taking bar food to a whole other level. Ridiculously cold beer, and fantastic food. It is 100% Zach Lyons tested, 1000% (not a typo) Zach Lyons approved.

CONTEST continues through September: I am personally holding a contest for our listeners:

  • Goto Jasper’s for drinks, dinner, lunch, or brunch
  • Take a picture of your drinks and/or food
  • Upload it on Twitter, & tag @FWordsPod, @JaspersNash in the tweet (Important: not the picture)
  • Save your receipt!!!
  • On the first podcast episode in September, I will draw from Random a follower who tweeted at us.
  • If you are drawn you will get up to $50 from me personally towards your bar tab (your tip not included in total)
  • If the receipt shows you went on the date and time during a Titans game (2 games left in August), I will bump up the limit to up to $75 dollars (not including your tip)
    • This is why the receipt is necessary

A die-hard Alabama fan, but he doesn't let that cloud his judgement of the Elite Players they have put in the NFL. Players like Derrick Henry, Julio Jones, and AJ McCarron. You've heard him on Football & Other F Words giving his Unfiltered Opinions as facts and that won't change. He's always 100% right even if he has to revise earlier statements. Lawyered.

Comments

  1. YES to all your comments about Tennessee’s defense! YES to everything about Derrick Henry. And YES to Vrabel-Ball.

I would contend that Simmons is at least as impactful as Aaron Donald is at this point and Donald’s career. Has he reached the same pinnacle that Donald reached a few years ago? … maybe not. But I agree with you guys that his trajectory is strong! …perhaps strong enough to take him above Donald’s pinnacle.

I think this Chiefs game is a bit more of a coin flip than you are giving credit for. It seems like the current analyst-bias that colors all of our thinking in today’s NFL is to be more impressed with offensive prowess then with game planning and defensive fortitude. But I’m not convinced that the former is a greater advantage than the latter.

  2. It would be very interesting to go back and study full-season tape on the patriots first two Super Bowl champions. I bet you would see something very similar to what you see in the Titans this season.

Derrick Henry is the wildcard we hold in hand that the early Patriots dynasty lacked. But Brady’s quick processing and release paired with his poise in the clutch was enough to carry them past the likes of Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner and an unlikely hot Panthers team lead by Jake Delhome. Remember, Brady was only throwing 20-ish TD’s per season. And NO ONE picked the Pats to win against any of the headliner QB’s until a few years into the dynasty.

For us, I wonder if the final lynchpin was Tannehill’s humbling end to a 2021 in which he tried too hard to carry the team and ultimately became a liability. This year, he seems way more committed to and comfortable with being a game manager whose primary jobs are to protect the morale, protect the ball, score in the red zone, and score on sudden change – just like Brady was in the early years, before he elevated his game and the Pats started leaning on offense as their defensive stars aged out or cashed out.

Do you guys see these similarities at all?
