Ranking the Titans head coaching candidates 1-10

Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk is casting a wide net in her search for the next head coach. The Titans have identified, and are in the process of interviewing, 10 candidates, including a late submission on Monday, Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown. The other nine candidates are Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

It represents a significantly larger net than the Titans cast when hiring Mike Vrabel or Mike Mularkey, when only a handful of candidates were interviewed. Barring a 11th candidate revealing himself (Mike McCarthy?), the Titans will hire from this pool of 10 candidates. While the process remains ongoing and fluid, we've ranked our favorite candidates from best to worst.

No. 1: Ben Johnson, Lions Offensive Coordinator

Ben Johnson was my top-ranking candidate before his Lions defeated the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. Johnson's offense was efficient, scoring 24 points while executing three-for-three on red-zone drives. The Lions averaged 6.1 yards of offense per play. Detroit's opening script touchdown was a well-balanced one, made up of five running plays and five passing plays.
