Recap: Tyler Boyd’s first Music City MLS strike earns three points

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC made it two wins in a week with a 1-0 win over New York City FC on Saturday night, thanks to Tyler Boyd’s first MLS goal in a gold shirt.

The XI

Interim head coach Rumba Munthali made no changes to his starting lineup, keeping Sam Surridge on the left wing and putting homegrown midfielder Isaiah Jones on the bench with his older brother Malachi on the opposite team.

On the pitch

The ‘Yotes dominated the opening exchanges, coming close to opening the scoring on a couple occasions before a defense-splitting through ball from Hany Mukhtar found Tyler Boyd all alone with goalkeeper Matt Freese. Somehow, Boyd blazed his shot over the empty net after rounding Freese.

Minutes later, Boyd made amends, heading home a Sam Surridge cross for his first Nashville goal in league play.

The Pigeons pushed hard for an equalizer, keeping Nashville on the back foot for most of the match. Nashville’s backline was resolute, though, and didn’t let New York put a single one of their 14 shots on target, en route to a second win in a week.
