Recap: Nashville SC 2-1 Sporting KC (Preseason)

Nashville SC got their first win of the 2024 preseason, knocking off Sporting Kansas City 2-1 in the second friendly of the Coyotes’ Florida training camp. They’ll stay in the Sunshine State through Friday, when they’ll play Toronto FC before heading home to close out preseason.

The XI

The list of absentees was once again noteworthy for Nashville; Designated Players Hany Mukhtar and Walker Zimmerman didn’t participate. Neither did starting left back Dan Lovitz. Aníbal Godoy, who missed Thursday’s match entirely, was able to play for the final half hour or so.

Dru Yearwood got his first start in gold before coming off at the halftime break, while Shaq Moore got his first start before making way for an unnamed trialist to again take their shot at a spot on the roster.

On the pitch

There’s nothing really to analyze from a game that no one outside the respective technical staffs were able to fully watch. Still, newcomers McKinze Gaines and Tyler Boyd continued their hot starts.

Gaines whipped in a cross in the ninth minute that either Jacob Shaffelburg or Jake Davis scored, depending on which team’s social media team you believe, following up his goalscoring performance on Thursday.

Alan Pulido quickly equalized in the 14th minute, before Tyler Boyd pounced on a loose header in the box to bag his first goal of the preseason, and his second goal contribution of the preseason.
