REPORT: Nashville SC to sign Uruguayan winger Rodrigo Piñeiro

Nashville SC are close to signing the new international attacker General Manager Mike Jacobs teased last week. First reported by Sport 890‘s Martin Charquero and confirmed by Broadway Sports, Nashville will sign Uruguayan winger Rodrigo Piñeiro as their newest Designated Player.

Piñeiro, 21, currently plays for Danubio F.C., a Montevideo-based club in the Uruguayan Primera División. Piñeiro scored three goals and assisted two more in 14 appearances since joining Danubio last January. Primarily a right-winger, Piñeiro is capable of playing anywhere on the attacking line underneath the striker.

Before joining Danubio, Piñeiro played at Peñarol, where MLS standouts such as LAFC’s Diego Rossi and Brian Rodríguez made their name.

While Randall Leal currently occupies one of Nashville’s three Designated Player spots, his contract is in the range to be bought down with allocation money. Broadway Sports understands that Nashville intends to buy down his deal and sign Piñeiro as a DP.

More to come on this signing once it’s officially announced.
