Nashville’s CJ Sapong named to MLS Team of the Week

Nashville SC striker CJ Sapong was named to the MLS Team of the Week on Monday. The 32-year-old veteran scored twice and assisted another in Nashville’s 3-0 win over FC Cincinnati on Saturday.

Since head coach Gary Smith introduced a front three of Sapong, Hany Mukhtar and Randall Leal, Nashville’s attack has been revitalized. The trio have scored a total of 15 goals on the season, and when they’ve started together, they’ve contributed a combined nine goals and four assists.

Sapong’s brace puts his season total at five goals and three assists. Only Mukhtar has more in either category for Nashville, and Sapong doesn’t look like he’ll relinquish the starting job anytime soon, despite the recent acquisition of Aké Loba for a club record $6.8 million.
