Titans could learn from how Dolphins built around Tua Tagovailoa

The Tennessee Titans (4-8) will be completely outclassed by the Miami Dolphins (9-3) on Monday Night Football.

The Dolphins are averaging league-highs in total yards (428.4) and passing yards (285.1) per contest. They're scoring a second-ranked 32 points per game, trailing the Dallas Cowboys (32.3) by the slimmest of margins for the league lead in that category, too. The Dolphins are averaging more than 30 points per game while the Titans have failed to reach that mark that season (or last season).

While hopelessly attempting to keep up with the Dolphins' high-powered offense, head coach Mike Vrabel (and general manager Ran Carthon) can instead learn from how the Dolphins surrounded once-average quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with an elite supporting cast. Tagovailoa undeniably deserves credit for taking the necessary steps forward, too. But Tagovailoa is also being propped up by a QB-friendly scheme, not so different from the one Matt LaFleur and Arthur Smith (similar coaching trees) operated in Tennessee.

That should be the goal around Will Levis this offseason.

The No. 5 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa didn't always look like the MVP candidate we're currently watching. In fact, following consecutive injury-shortened campaigns as a rookie and sophomore that delivered average to below-average results when on the field, many were tagging the former Alabama standout with the "bust" label. Prematurely . . .
