Titans News: Groundhog day avoidance

Gil Brandt and Mark Dominik said the Titans could/should select Zaven Collins or Christian Barmore with the 22nd pick. Please don’t, JRob. I’ve been on the record many times saying the Titans should stay away from any non-CB defensive player in the first round. If the Titans drafted Collins, they’d be banking on a player to make a giant leap at a position he didn’t play much in college, against lesser competition in year one. In Barmore, they’d be drafting a guy that is reportedly “resistant to coaching”. Sounds like a guy they got last year, and I don’t want a repeat.

There is a ton of Barmore love in the Jim Wyatt Mailbag Experience this week. Stay away.

In NFL Network’s LIVE mock, Lance Zierlein selected Greg Newsome, CB from Northwestern for the Titans. Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks both liked the pick, noting that he has a high ceiling and a high floor.

In another mock draft, Chad Reuter gives the Titans good players after the second round. The first and second rounds are very poor.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a big time deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, trading for Orlando Brown to be their LT of the future.

  1. I’m now out on Barmore after these reports. However if Zaven Collins makes it to 22 you take him unless an elite CB is there. Collins would instantly improve our front 7 which is a huge key to making our defense better overall. Where would he play? Anywhere. He can play outside, inside, standing or hand in the dirt. And next year when we need to replace Jayon and Evans, this guy can pair up with Long and we are set. If he’s there he’s the best player available and he’s an incredible talent. Unbelievably productive player with comparisons to Urlacher and Anthony Barr.

    1. Actually picking Collins would make up for the miss on Evans. I wanted LVE in that draft but Dallas got him first. Collins is a better prospect than LVE was.

    2. Yeah Give me Paye or Collins. Paye is the best option as far as need but as you stated Collins can play any position and he is very good in pass coverage.
