The game on Sunday was a bit of a bummer. What felt like an impending blowout turned into what should have been a Titans victory that they squandered. Too many mistakes led to blowing it against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Social media of course believes that they have the culprit. Todd Downing, the officials, Malik Willis, the wide receivers, Jon Robinson, etc. People like to blame a single person when in reality it was a collective effort to fail. Let’s attempt some nuance going forward, shall we?
Jim Wyatt, in his response to Mike Tate, nails my thoughts on constantly dumping on Todd Downing despite major failures in the talent department on this offense.
Who could possibly be the Titans’ MVP this season? It’s obviously Derrick Henry.
The wide receivers are a problem on this team. I’ve said it for multiple years now, but the Titans didn’t do a good enough job in the offseason to address the issue and it’s come back to haunt them. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, despite the offseason love he gets every year, is absolutely awful. Chris Conley stinks. Robert Woods is struggling to separate. Don’t get me started on Cody Hollister. I said it when the Titans kept Mason Kinsey and Dez Fitzpatrick around on the practice squad, but those two spots should have been used for guys that can help this year. Not for more of the same lackluster skillset you have in spades.
To me, this is the biggest failure for Jon Robinson. Dennis Daley is horrendous, but he was never the plan to start most of the year. They had a very good left tackle. The Titans never had a very good WR to start 2022 because they traded him away in the offseason.
Derrick Henry tops out at #6 in the NFL.com Offensive Player Power Rankings.
