Titans News: MVP watch?

Derrick Henry, yet again is taking the league by storm. Nate Burleson says he has to be in the running for MVP and Peter King is comparing him to HoFer Earl Campbell.

Some good news on the injury front, MyCole Pruitt and Adam Humphries were both full participants in Wednesday’s practice. It will be great if the Titans can get both guys back for the stretch run.

After a horrid display on Wednesday Afternoon Football, Mike Tomlin called his team’s performance “junior varsity”. Honestly, I think that is a little kind.

Right now, the Titans have the 29th pick in the NFL draft. That will obviously change due to playoffs, when the Titans are inevitably pick #32.

  1. Derrick Henry’s physical style (post-Eddie George) puts him possibly between Earl Campbell and (dare I say it) Jim Brown. That vicious stiff arm and ability to fall forward even in blown up plays reminds me of old film of Brown dragging and flinging people as he charged down the field.

Derrick suffers from having the years of him trying to be a “finesse” back like George and Barry Sanders. (Not saying they weren’t tough, but they were hard to grab and get down. Marcus Allen was another one.) Those lost years are going to muffle his overall impact and body of work, when compared to other greats.

I just wonder how he compares to more modern greats like AP and Ladanian Thomlinson.

    1. I hear you. It’s sad to think of the years when Henry’s lack of refinement + our system & lineup allegiances kept him muzzled.

I keep hoping that his incredible stature, durability and training habits will help him stave off the inevitable decline of aging. I know you can’t expect significant aberration from typical decline curves at the RB position, but maybe he breaks the curve just a little bit?
