Titans News: Special talents

On NFL.com, Mike Band presents Next Gen Stat’s “Can’t Miss Prospects”. Most of the names I am unsurprised by, but #7 on the list, Kadarius Toney, I did not expect to see. Maybe I need to rethink my stance on Toney.

One year ago, Peter Schrager correctly mocked Isaiah Wilson to the Titans. I didn’t like when that became a reality. 365ish days later, he mocked another player to the Titans that I would not be a fan of drafting, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. It’s not that I think JOK won’t be a good player, I think he’s could be an excellent ILB at the next level. However, I do not think he’s at the level of a Kuechly or Roquan Smith or Devin White where he’s can completely transform your defense.

ILB is fairly fungible in my opinion outside of the very elite level guys, and given that the Titans have two very capable ILBs in David Long and Jayon Brown, spending a premium pick on a devalued position would be poor asset management. Or, if you want to draft an ILB early on, maybe don’t have massive voids at WR, CB, and TE.

The Carolina Panthers signed DaQuan Jones to a $4M deal for one-year. I would have loved to bring Jones back to the Titans, but he was obviously not a big priority for the team. It will be interesting to see if they like the guys they have to fill out the DT group or if they draft a guy.

The jersey numbers are out for the new Titans. Bud Dupree stuck with his familiar #48, which is pretty gross for an OLB, but if it works for him, I won’t complain.

In the Jim Wyatt Mailbag Experience, James addresses questions about WRs in the draft, the best seats in Nissan, and how Jon Robinson might trade up or down in the draft.

Eddie George reminisces on his draft day experience 25 years later. Very cool trip down memory lane.
