Titans News: Trickle down

Once again, the Titans won ugly on Sunday, defeating the Washington Commanders by the score of 21-17. The team was pretty bad in most phases of the game, and I would give most of the blame to personnel. Fans have cried about Dillon Radunz and Caleb Farley not getting playing time, but you know what? Every time they play they get dominated. Spare me the “that’s the only way they are going to learn”. It’s not. This coaching staff sees these players every single day, and it’s pretty clear that those two picks at this point are major busts.

That leads me to Jon Robinson, who followed up an awful 2020 draft with an almost equally awful 2021 class. Both groups are pretty sad and the repercussions of those classes failing is showing itself on Sundays. The offensive line sucks. Dennis Daley is one of the worst players I’ve ever watched. No idea why Robison decided to give up a 5th round pick for someone that could be reasonably replaced by someone off the street. The lack of ability by the OL means no time for Tannehill to operate, and it limits the playcalls the not-so-great offensive staff is able to use. For a team that lives on the margins, their inability to scout OL talent is making their ability to win even tougher.

Another position group that struggles on a weekly basis is the secondary. Despite having Kevin Byard, Amani Hooker, two second round picks, and a first round pick in the secondary when healthy, they stink. Giving up chunk play after chunk play and allowing players like Carson Wentz throw for over 300 yards. I’m not sure Elijah Molden coming back is going to solve much, but at least it’s a new face out there.

The Titans are the 1st team since the 2005 49ers to not score a point in the 4th quarter through 5 games! Congrats to all involved.

My expectations going into this year were that the Titans would win the division and then lose in the first round of the playoffs. So far that seems to be tracking well. The offseason is going to present a lot of questions, and unfortunately, they are the exact same ones we’ve faced the last few offseasons. Is Ryan Tannehill your QB in 2023? Who is your LT and LG? Who are you getting to add to the pass catching weapons?
