The Titans made several roster moves ahead of tomorrow’s game with the Ravens, the most notable of which saw Jadeveon Clowney go on IR for what will be at least a three week absence.
Clowney has played well while perhaps failing to meet the expectations of the fan base. Jon Robinson brought Clowney to Tennessee to help solve the team’s pass rushing woes. Assuming Clowney returns to the lineup after the mandatory minimum three week absence, he’ll be back for the 13th game of the season. He’s yet to record a sack this year. It’s not what Robinson, Mike Vrabel or Clowney’s agent hoped for.
Linebackers Will Compton and Tuzar Skipper have been elevated to the game day roster for Sunday and will revert back to the practice squad following the game. Skipper should see a decent amount of playing time as the third outside linebacker in the pass rushing rotation. We expect Derick Roberson to start opposite Harold Landry. Skipper’s playing time could depend on how much the Titans use Rashaan Evans on the edge. There have been some whispers that he could see some snaps as a pass rusher.
The Titans also announced that Kenny Vaccaro will miss tomorrow’s game with a neck injury. We expect to see plenty of Amani Hooker in his place, although they theoretically play different positions. Hooker has played well this season. We’re excited to watch him get a big opportunity tomorrow. Joshua Kalu could also factor in here. Cornerback Greg Mabin was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster while fellow corner Kareem Orr was placed on IR.
Long snapper Matt Overton has also been elevated from the practice squad as part of the NFL’s new COVID-19 rules. He replaces David Long Jr. who is currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
In addition to these names, Adam Humphries, Adoree’ Jackson, MyCole Pruitt, Rodger Saffold and Larrell Murchison have also been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
It seems like the mini-bye didn’t help the Titans get healthy. In fact, they’re more banged up now than ever before. Going into this game without Jackson, Clowney, Saffold, Humphries and Pruitt hurts.
Expect to see Jamil Douglas get the start in Saffold’s place. Cornerback Breon Borders should continue to start opposite Malcolm Butler on the outside.
The Titans are going to need a big performance from some of their depth players tomorrow.
