Titans show willingness to change, but how far will they go?

When it comes to getting off the field on third downs, the Titans' defense has found itself on a disastrous treadmill for at least the last four weeks.

Line up the same players, hope for new results, fail miserably.

Over and over and over again.

Time for change?

That's why Monday's acquisition of cornerback Desmond King – as well as some of the comments made Monday by Mike Vrabel –- should serve as a relief to Titans' fans: If nothing else, it proves the Titans are at least open to – and seeking – change.

The trade for King won't rank among the blockbusters Titans general manager Jon Robinson has pulled off during his tenure, nothing like dealing the number one overall pick in 2016 or hauling in running back DeMarco Murray that same year.

But the King acquisition marked the first time Robinson has traded for a player during the season, and – more importantly – it was an acknowledgment by Robinson and Vrabel that action needed to be taken to stop the bleeding. The Titans could have stood pat, hoping the eventual return of injured cornerbacks Adoree Jackson and Kristian Fulton would provide the kind of speed and athleticism to tighten up the pass coverage. They could have taken a longer look at the bench, hoping players like Kareem Orr or Breon Borders would blossom into regular contributors.
