In true 2020 fashion Titans capture AFC South with a game-winning doink from a rookie kicker

Three days into the New Year, the Titans delivered the kind of season-ending finish that looked like something straight out of 2020.

Seriously, who would have believed a script written like this?

The Titans' hopes of capturing the AFC South title for the first time since 2008 came down to a 5-8, 205-pound rookie kicker, Sam Sloman, who'd been cut by the team that drafted him – the Los Angeles Rams – halfway through this season.

Of course it did.

How long had Sloman been a member of the Titans' 53-man roster? Since Saturday, when he was officially elevated from the team's practice squad, replacing Stephen Gostkowski who – again sticking with the chaotic 2020 theme – had been placed on the COVID-19 reserve list.

And did Sloman's 37-yard attempt sail smoothly through the uprights, immediately allowing all Titans fans to exhale? Of course not. It bounced off the right upright before sneaking over the crossbar, inducing heart palpitations among two-tone blue supporters before they could finally celebrate the 41-38 victory over Houston.

The doink for the division? The clank for the crown? Whatever you want to title the kick, it's already one for the ages.
