Hany Mukhtar named MLS Player of Matchday 11

Nashville SC attacker Hany Mukhtar was named Major League Soccer’s Player of Matchday 11 for his hat trick in a 3-0 win over Chicago Fire on Saturday. Mukhtar was also named to the league’s Team of the Matchday.

Mukhtar’s hat trick was the third of his Nashville SC career. He has seven multi-goal games since the start of 2022, the most in MLS. Since the start of 2021, Mukhtar has been named Player of the Matchday six times. No other player in the league has more than three.

Mukhtar’s seven total Player of the Matchday nods are the second-most among active players, behind only LAFC’s Carlos Vela (nine). He’s the fifth player in league history to earn the honor in four consecutive seasons.

The MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Continental Tire is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media, including Ben Wright and Valair Shabilla of Broadway Sports Media.
