Hany Mukhtar named MLS Player of the Week

Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar was named MLS Player of the Week after his Week 16 brace lead the ‘Yotes to a 3-1 win on the road against DC United. It’s the fourth time he’s been named Player of the Week since joining Nashville ahead of the 2020 season. Only Seatte’s Raúl Ruidíaz has earned that honor four times in the same period.

Mukhtar’s brace takes him to eight goals scored this season, the fourth-most in MLS. The 2021 Landon Donovan MLS MVP runner up has 13 combined goals and assists this year, the most in MLS, as well as two goals in the US Open Cup.

Since the start of 2021, no player in MLS has contributed to more goals than Mukhtar’s 41. He’s put himself firmly in the mix for the MVP discussion once again, and is one of the favorites to represent the league at the 2021 MLS All-Star game.
