Who will be Titans’ next backup QB? Identifying 5 Options

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan discussed the qualities he's looking for in a backup quarterback at last week's NFL Combine. Ryan Tannehill is scheduled to reach unrestricted free agency next week and will not re-sign with the Titans. Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon may be tasked with finding a new quarterback to assist franchise signal caller Will Levis. Here's what Callahan had to say about the backup QB spot:

"You want a guy that can play," Callahan said. "If they have to play, you need to get out of a three-four game stretch. You want a backup that can play the position. Another important element is how they are in the room with your starter. That relationship matters. It could be very fruitful, or damaging if they're not on the same page. Having a backup quarterback that helps and assists can be helpful on game day. It's an undervalued role," Callahan concluded.

With all due respect, Malik Willis does not meet the criteria Callahan outlined above. Willis has now appeared in 11 career contests across two campaigns with the Titans. Tennessee is 1-2 in games Willis had to start. He's completed just 53% of his passing attempts, has yet to throw his first career touchdown, and has thrown three interceptions. Willis has also fumbled on four occasions. Willis has generally made poor decisions with the ball . . .
