Nashville’s Joe Willis named to MLS Team of the Week bench

Nashville SC goalkeeper Joe Willis was named to the MLS Team of the Week bench after his seven save performance in Columbus on Wednesday. The veteran net minder earned his sixth clean sheet of the year with a depleted backline.

Willis made his 150th MLS appearance in Columbus, moving him to 29th all time among MLS goalkeepers. His seven saves were a season high, but not enough to push him into the XI past Kenneth Vermeer’s eight save outing in a 1-1 draw with Atlanta. Willis’s six clean sheets are tied with Colorado’s William Yarbrough for the MLS lead.
