With Brian Callahan and Ran Carthon, Titans usher in cutting edge, forward-thinking era

The Tennessee Titans ushered in a new era on Wednesday (and I do mean new) officially unveiling former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan as the new head coach.

It was an expected outcome after multiple national analysts reported the news on Monday evening. What Titans fans didn't see coming was a restructure of the front office. General manager Ran Carthon has been promoted to GM/Executive Vice President. Assistant General Manager Chad Brinker was promoted to President of Football Operations.


New structure in the front office

When Mike Vrabel was fired, owner Amy Adams Strunk declined opportunities to clarify her organization's power structure. Carthon delivered a follow-up press conference that was equal parts confusing and vague. Credit to Adams Strunk, who delivered on her promise to present clearly defined roles on Wednesday.

Carthon's duties will expand to cover all areas that impact the Titans. He'll be granted full roster control, including all personnel decisions (including draft and free agency acquisitions), oversight of Callahan and his coaching staff, scouting, sports medicine and player engagement.

It's the type of power Vrabel at-times craved, but lacked. Carthon also isn't expected to meddle in Callahan's staff-building process. He'll simply assist and serve as a sounding board, offering his own . . .
